I have to agree with one of the other reviews that gave 4 stars because I did not care for Ashton. She has had a crush since she first saw Kit in Dallas at her brother's house for dinner before in Never Love a Cowboy. Fast forward she is in frail health not expected to live. In this story her brother asks Kit for a huge favor-marry Ashton to give her her dream of being a bride. The author did an excellent job of making the story believable. They have a beautiful wedding and Kit finds he is actually attracted to Ashton and even though she knows everything is temporary he is everything she could want. Then she finds out he helped Clarisse end her painful suffering from cancer. Clarisse was Kit beloved who was betrothed to his twin brother as the heir apparent of Ravenleigh. This has haunted him for years but Ashton immediately accuses him of murder. I could see her shock but she supposedly loves him and knows he carries a burden. Instead of seeing man he is, she turns against him. Only when he is almost killed (actually he is trying get himself killed) does she "forgive". Loved Christopher and Elizabeth's story and the start of Tom and Lauren relationship. Diamondgirl

while I enjoyed all three books. Gray and Harry were my favorite. I liked and admired Kit but Ashton was frustrating at times and thoughtless.
I was very happy with the conclusion of this series. You will not be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this as I have all your books. I read on my s and my Nooks. Reading is my main entertainment these days as my old body doesn't work as well as it used to. I think I have read all and will keep my eyes open for New ones.
The first two stories in this series were incredibly well crafted with characters that made you feel everything they were feeling. This final tale satisfies as they did, with the added bonus of a taste of hope beyond the mundane. I recommend all three tales, as they will be on my read again and again list!
First of all, when an author can make me literally fall in love with her character in the hero than that is always a big plus. This book made me long for someone like Kit Montgomery. He was just a remarkable hero especially in his treatment of the heroine and I appreciated how the story let the love between them unfold slowly and how we got to experience it's growth as well which was just beautifully done. I was adoring this book from the first chapter. I did hate near the last third of the book how the heroine took such issue with the secret Kit told her about especially with everything he had done for her and how much he loved her. It seemed a little out of character for her and it irritated me. But I tried to keep in mind how pure Ashton was and how sheltered she had been her whole life because of her illness so it may have been hard for her to deal with because of that. Kit never stopped loving her in spite of it and of course every book has to have some conflict to make it interesting and I knew in the end she would work through it and see that she was wrong about him and wrong to judge him so harshly. I also welcomed Grayson and Harry fron the two previous books...so glad to have them there. This was an amazing story and touched me in so many ways and it will go on my keeper shelf for sure. It is one of my very favorites now and I will treasure it. I simply adored it! Well done again Lorraine.
This book started off good but slowly declined. I did not like the heroine very much...not because she was sick, but her lack of emotion for anything but death. I found my dislike for her grew when she found out about Kit and his secret. The emotion she showed then was unforgivable. I really don't know how Kit fell in love with her...she had no depth, nothing to recommend her at all. I did not like her attitude toward Kit when she found out the truth. After all he did for her how could she think he would kill her? Ashton and her crap plus the shot out weighed the book down. I wished LH had given Kit a better heroine...he deserved better he was such a good guy how sad he ended up with Ashton!!!
Dude Review Honestly, I'm only giving this four out of respect for the author and her previous works, and for the strong play on emotion in this one. I don't know but I think I'm about to give up on foreign hero's settling the west. It just doesn't work for me, or authors aren't able to do a good job of bringing them here I don't know. There's just one big problem in this book for me, which not be an issue for most - it was the story, it was just too bland, lacking depth, I lost interest in it 1/3 through it and essentially skimmed through the rest. But I am glad that I did skim through the rest because there were plenty of good plot twists here and there, some fun action scenes, and one thing the author can't be beat on is the play on emotion, good tearjerkin. A medium-raw spice level, good amount of sexual tension with a few good rolls and tumbles in the hay. I would only recommend this to Heath fans AFTER they've read her texas trilogy, because this falls well short of that, but a good read nonetheless - just didn't work for me....
